Erum Frahim

Erum Frahim, CCIE No. 7549, is a technical leader working in the Solution Validation Services (SVS) group at Cisco. In her current role, Erum is leading efforts to test data center solutions for several Cisco high-profile customers and leading all the cross-business units interlock. Most recently, she is working on Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), UCS Director, OpenStack, and big data. Before this, Erum managed the Nexus platform escalation group and served as a team lead for the data center storage-area network (SAN) test lab under the Cisco data center business unit. Erum joined Cisco in 2000 as a technical support engineer. Erum has a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and also holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from NED University, Karachi, Pakistan. Erum also authors articles in Certification Magazine and on Cisco.com and has participated in many CiscoLive Events. In her spare time, Erum enjoys her time with her husband and child.

About the Authors

 

Richard Froom, CCIE No. 5102, is an engineering manager for the Data Center Business Unit Customer

Operations Group at Cisco Systems. Richard is currently testing Cisco storage solutions with customers

and has been involved in customer testing, proof-of-concept testing, and post-sales support of

Cisco storage solutions. He has been with Cisco for nine years, previously serving as a support engineer

troubleshooting customers’ networks and a technical leader working with Cisco Catalyst products.

Richard, being involved with Catalyst product field trials, has been crucial in driving troubleshooting

capabilities of Catalyst and MDS products and software. He has also contributed substantially to the

Cisco.com LAN Technologies Technical Tips and has written white papers about 802.3 auto-negotiation

and HSRP. Richard is also the coauthor ofCisco Catalyst QoS: Quality of Service in Campus Networks

(ISBN 1-58705-120-6) from Cisco Press. He attended Clemson University and completed his bachelor

of science degree in computer engineering.

 Balaji Sivasubramanian, CCNP, is a product manager for the Internet Systems Business Unit (ISBU)

at Cisco Systems. He is involved in defining product requirements for the next generation switching

products for the Catalyst 6500 Switch Series. Previously, Balaji served as a team leader for the Cisco

Systems Technical Assistance Center (TAC) LAN Switching team and as an escalation engineer for the

Gigabit Switching Business Unit (GSBU). He has been with Cisco for more than seven years. He was a

technical reviewer for the Cisco Press title,Cisco Catalyst QoS: Quality of Service in Campus Networks

(ISBN 1-58705-120-6). In addition, Balaji has authored and reviewed many technical white papers on

Cisco.com for the LAN Technologies subject area. He has been a presenter at Cisco Networkers and

Technical Virtual Chalk Talk seminars for partners. Balaji holds a master of science degree in electronics

and computer engineering from the University of Arizona and holds a bachelor of engineering

degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Anna University, India.

 Erum Frahim, CCIE No. 7549, is a team lead working for the Data Center, Business unit in SAN Test

Lab at Cisco Systems. Erum is currently testing SAN solutions for various Cisco customers to aid them in

deployment of the Cisco storage technologies. In addition, she is testing new features and products as well

as handling crucial customer issues concerning Catalyst switches and Cisco MDS switches. She has been

working for Cisco for the past six years and has been involved in early field trial testing of Catalyst products.

In addition, Erum has contributed and authored articles on Cisco.com and inCertification Magazineon LAN and SAN technologies. Erum attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, where shecompleted her master of science degree in electrical engineering, and she received her bachelor’s degreefrom the N.E.D University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan.

Richard Froom

Mike Flannagan, CCIE No. 7651, is a manager in the High Touch Technical Support (HTTS) group at Cisco Systems. Mike previously lead the creation and deployment of the QoS Virtual Team, which participated in the development of new QoS features for Cisco IOS Software and developed QoS strategies and implementation guidelines for some of the largest Cisco Enterprise customers.

Richard Froom, CCIE No. 5102, is a software and QA engineer for the Financial Test Lab at Cisco Systems. He has been involved with Catalyst product field trials and has been crucial in driving troubleshooting capabilities of Catalyst products and software.

Kevin Turek, CCIE No. 7284, is currently working as a network consulting engineer in the Cisco Federal Support Program in Research Triangle Park. As a member of the Cisco internal QoS virtual team, Kevin assists internal Cisco engineers and external Cisco customers with QoS deployment.

Richard holds CCIEs in Routing and Switching and in Storage Networking. Richard currently focuses on expanding his teamโ€™s validation coverage to new technologies in the data center, including Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), OpenStack, Intercloud Fabric, and big data solutions with Hadoop.

Balaji Sivasubramanian

Balaji Sivasubramanian is a product line manager in the Cloud Services and Switching Technology Group focusing on upcoming products in the cloud services and Data Center virtualization area. Before this role, Balaji was a senior product manager for the Catalyst 6500 switches product line, where he successfully launched the Virtual Switching System (VSS) technology worldwide. He started his Cisco career in Cisco Technical Assistant Center working in the LAN switching products and technologies. Balaji has been a speaker at various industry events such as Cisco Live and VMworld. Balaji has a Master of Science degree in computer engineering from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in electrical and electronics from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University (India).
