On March 26, 2013, Cisco announced updates to their associate-level certifications. CCENT is now the only prerequisite certification for the newly-created CCNA Routing & Switching certification (formerly CCNA) as well as the CCNA Voice, CCNA Wireless, CCNA Security, and CCDA certifications. The changes reflect the evolving job market and the latest Cisco technology, including IOS v15, IPv6 Support, IOS licensing, and a simplified 802.1x security implementation. For full details, visit

The Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Security) is an associate- or foundation-level Cisco certification. Credential holders possess skills necessary to protect network security, including developing a security infrastructure, recognizing and mitigating security threats, and ensuring availability of network data and devices.

The CCNA Security credential is recognized by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) as meeting the CNSS 4011 training standard.

New topics that are included in the updated training include Cisco ASA adaptive security appliance version 8.3 and 8.4 software, Cisco AnyConnect(TM) 3.0 and traditional IPsec clients, EtherChannel and the latest firewall features.
